Abbott in the runs

Jamie Abbott impressed in the overs possible on a rain-shortened second day of Cambridge MCCU’s clash with Worcestershire.

In the morning, Brett D’Oliveira and George Rhodes’ late runs helped take the county side to 303 for eight declared after Jack Leach had moved his overnight 46 to 51.

The university side did not wilt in reply, however, as Abbott struck a fine 63 from the top of the order.

Many of his colleagues failed to reach double figures, yet Adil Arif’s 43 not out ensured Cambridge closed on a decent 177 for six.
