Former Surrey and Gloucestershire wicketkeeper Jonathan Batty is to come out of retirement to represent promotion-chasing Northamptonshire in their LV= County Championship meeting with Hampshire this week.
Batty brought an end to his professional career at the end of last season, but will stand in for one match only in the absence of David Murphy and Ben Duckett.
Murphy has international commitments with Scotland, while England Under-19 skipper Duckett is injured.
Northants currently sit second in Division Two, 44 points ahead of third-placed Essex, who have a game in hand.
Head coach David Ripley said: “With our two wicketkeepers unavailable for selection in the Hampshire match this week, and given the importance of the fixture for our promotion push, we were looking for an experienced campaigner to help. I am delighted that Jonathan has agreed to join us for this match.”
