Northamptonshire have signed Australia paceman Jackson Bird for the 2014 campaign.
The 26-year-old, whose appearance at the Emirates Durham ICG for the fourth Test of this summer’s Ashes series was his third five-day appearance for his country, will play 10 LV= County Championship fixtures and seven Friends Life t20 matches next summer.
Bird has taken 13 Test wickets at an average of 23.3 and 109 scalps at 20.7 in first-class cricket and seven wickets in eight T20 appearances.
It is the third signing of the summer for Northants, who have already bolstered a squad preparing for life in Division One and are looking to retain its T20 title with the signings of Maurice Chambers and Graeme White.
They have also awarded new contracts to Steven Crook, David Willey, David Murphy, Kyle Coetzer, Muhammad Azhar Ullah, Rob Newton, Rob Keogh, David Sales and James Kettleborough.
Chief executive David Smith said, "The signing of Bird alongside Maurice Chambers and Graeme White will see the completion of the clubs' recruitment policy for next season."
