Bopara tops FTI MVP one-day rankings

Ravi Bopara’s timely century against Ireland ensured he leapt to the top of the FTI Most Valuable Player table for one-day internationals.

Ahead of England’s five-match series against Australia, the Essex all-rounder hit 101 runs and claimed 31 points to join James Anderson at the summit of the rankings.

His haul followed his 22.42-point return in the Champions Trophy final in June. It also took him to eighth in the overall table, which includes Test and Twenty20 international T20 cricket.

With fellow ODI leader Anderson rested for the NatWest Series, which begins at Headingley tomorrow, Bopara now has the opportunity to forge ahead.

The England FTI MVP rewards players for every run scored, wicket taken and catch held across all three formats of the game.

Bowlers receive higher marks for good economy rates in the FTI MVPs, bowling maidens and dismissing the top order, while batsmen are rewarded for high run-rates and the percentage of the team’s runs they hit.

Bopara’s fellow centurion, Eoin Morgan, with whom he shared a world-record fifth wicket stand, is now up to fourth in the ODI FTI MVPs after claiming 34.93 points for his 124 in Malahide. Boyd Rankin bagged 18.99 points for his 4-46.
