Burns extends Surrey stay

Rory Burns was LV= breakthrough player of the year for 2013, having compiled 917 County Championship runs in Division One

Emerging top-order batsman Rory Burns has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at Surrey until 2015.

The 23-year-old left-hander, who is currently playing for Randwick Petersham CC in Sydney, is establishing himself most in first-class cricket with an average just below 40 in 46 innings, which have included four hundreds.

Two of those came this season when he was named LV= breakthrough player of the year, having hit 917 County Championship Division One runs.

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart said: “Rory is an exciting talent. I am delighted he has committed his future to the club and look forward to working with him in the future.”
