Joe Burns’ stint as Leicestershire’s overseas player has been brought to a premature end after the batsman suffered a minor hip injury.
The 23-year-old Australian, signed as cover for Ramnaresh Sarwan when the latter was recalled by West Indies, averaged 31 in the LV= County Championship during his time at Grace Road and impressed in the Friends Life t20 with a strike-rate approaching 130.
Leicestershire chief executive Mike Siddall said: “Joe has been affected by a shin injury and then a slight hip problem during his time with us.
“He is returning home for recuperation and treatment in order to prepare for Brisbane Heat’s trip to India in September for the Champions League.”
“I’d like to thank Joe for his contribution to the team and wish him well in his career in Australia.”
