England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has signed for Melbourne Renegades in the early stages of this winter’s Big Bash.
The 23-year-old, who has played in 25 Twenty20 and 19 one-day internationals but no Tests, will be available for the Renegades’ opening game of Australia’s domestic T20 competition on December 20.
Given Buttler’s certain involvement in the limited-overs internationals with Australia that follow the Ashes, he will be replaced by Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez before his England duty.
Buttler, who joined Lancashire from Somerset in late September, is already in Australia with the England Performance Programme.
"It’s a great opportunity for me to join the strong and competitive Renegades squad," he said. "I look forward to being a part of a very successful campaign for the team."
Renegades coach Simon Helmot said: "Two things you’ll notice about Jos are his clean striking of the ball and the amount of brute force behind his strokes.
"It’s a real treat to see him on song and hear the sound of the ball thumping off his bat - hopefully he gets going for our members this summer."
