Buttler ready for match practice

Jos Buttler is looking forward to making the most of another opportunity to put new skills into practice against a Western Australia Second XI.

Buttler is part of the England Performance Programme squad touring Australia as he continues his development.

The wicketkeeper-batsman faced a Queensland Second XI last week and will get more match practice from tomorrow.

Buttler told “My main focus has been my keeping; obviously Bruce French has been here so I’ve been able to have some time with him.

“We worked on some stood-back stuff in Brisbane but here at Perth more stand-up work. And then with my batting I’ve worked with Mark Ramprakash and a little with Chris Taylor as well.

“It will be a tough game with the local conditions for their guys but it is a great opportunity for us to put into practice what we have been working on over the last four weeks in a match situation.

“We will try and build on what we did in Brisbane and hope for a win.”

The encounter will be the latest leg of the EPP’s productive trip Down Under thus far.

Buttler added: “It has been excellent. We got some really good practice in at Brisbane before we came to Perth and have been able to work on some different things.

“The facilities and coaching have been first-class and helped really improve my game.”

On Australia itself, he admitted: “It is a great opportunity to experience different culture. It is the first time I have been here.”
