England selectors today announced a 14-man squad for the two match NatWest International T20 series against Australia commencing Thursday 29 August at the Ageas Bowl and concluding on Saturday 31 August at the Emirates Durham ICG.
Michael Carberry is the only member of the squad yet to play a T20 for England. The 32-year-old Hampshire batsman averaged 56 in this season's Friends Life t20 competition including an unbeaten century against Lancashire in the quarter finals. Three players involved in the current Investec Ashes series have been included in the squad, captain Stuart Broad, batsman Joe Root and pace bowler Steven Finn.
National Selector Geoff Miller, said: "With only eight international T20 matches until the ICC World T20 next April this NatWest series is an important chance for players to show they are capable of performing well at this level. The two matches will also allow Ashley Giles and Stuart Broad an opportunity to look at a number of different options.
"This squad combines players with plenty of international experience with players who have impressed at domestic level and who deserve an opportunity to test themselves in an international environment against what will no doubt be a strong Australian side."
