Hampshire Royals batsman Michael Carberry’s swashbuckling 150 not out against Lancashire Lightning has earned him the Yorkshire Bank 40 Moment of the Month award for May.
The prolific left-hander starred in the Royals’ nine-wicket win over Lancashire Lightning. His stunning 115-ball knock, included 18 fours and five sixes, beating his previous best run tally of 148 not out against Scotland last summer.
Carberry’s match-winning innings saw him poll 60% of the vote from fans of Yorkshire Bank Cricket on Facebook.
Last year’s leading run-scorer in the 40-over competition was thrilled to pick up his accolade. He said: “It’s really nice to win to the award for my Yorkshire Bank 40 performance against Lancashire.
"Obviously, the most important thing was that the team won the game, but I’m happy that I’ve been recognised for my achievements and hopefully I can continue in the same form this season.”
As part of his prize for winning the award, Carberry has chosen to donate £200 from Yorkshire Bank to the Hampshire Cricket Community Trust, as part of the sponsor’s commitment to supporting community initiatives.
Carberry added: “I’ve decided to donate the money to the Hampshire Cricket Community Trust. They do a lot to support groups and projects within the local community and help promote sporting and leisure opportunities within the county and surrounding areas.”
May’s Moment of the Month winner beat off stiff competition from Leicestershire’s Niall O’Brien, Kent all-rounder Ben Harmison, Sussex paceman Chris Jordan and Glamorgan batsman Marcus North to win the inaugural prize in this season’s Yorkshire Bank 40.
