Michael Clarke is set to boost Australia ahead of the Ashes by making a return to action ahead of schedule.
The 32-year-old missed his country’s current limited-overs tour of India due to a long-standing back problem and was not due to make his comeback until November 6, in New South Wales' Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria.
However, the Australia skipper will lead his state’s side in a game with Tasmania which starts on Wednesday.
Cricket Australia confirmed his inclusion on its website and, if Clarke comes through unscathed, he is likely to feature in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on November 21.
Clarke, whose last appearance was against England in a one-day international on September 16, will take to the field alongside fellow Australia Test players Nathan Lyon, Steven Smith and David Warner.
