England Development Programme Under-17s will be captained by 16-year-old Aneurin Donald as they begin a three-day clash with their Sri Lanka counterparts today.
The EDP U17s will also play three 50-over fixtures against the tourists, in what is the first international experience for many of the players.
Coach Iain Brunnschweiler has named a youthful side, with a number of those eligible for the age group currently representing England Under-19s in the Tri-Series against Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Brunnschweiler has also enlisted the help of two former England captains as he leads his side into the series.
"The preparation has gone really well and the boys are in great spirit going into this fixture, and the series as a whole,” Brunnschweiler told ecb.co.uk.
“We have even had the honour of a visit from Andrew Strauss (the day before the game), and Michael Vaughan will be involved for the first two days of the three-day match.
“Having ex-Test captains involved within the EDP, along with the coaching support of guys such as Richard Johnson, Richard Dawson, Jon Batty and Simon Guy shows the investment going into these talented young players development.
“I'm sure this will be a fabulous experience for all involved.”
