Giles Clarke, the chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, today congratulated Cricket Ireland after their side became the first to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to be held in Australia and New Zealand.
Ireland's two victories against the Netherlands in the ICC Pepsi World Cricket Championship meant that they were the first of the two qualifiers from that competition. Mr Clarke said: "Ireland have been the most consistent performers in Associate cricket for a number of years and their qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup is well deserved.
"'They have shown in 2007 and 2011 that they are capable of competing with the best and - as England found in Bangalore to their cost - are also capable of pulling off some shocks.
"Their qualification is another tribute to the structures that have been put in place by Cricket Ireland and the hard work of their board, led by president Robin Walsh, chairman Ross McCollum, and chief executive Warren Deutrom and his team of executives."
