Giles Clarke, the chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, today congratulated England team director Andy Flower, captain Alastair Cook and the England team and management on winning their third successive Ashes series by claiming victory in the fourth Investec Ashes Test match at Durham yesterday evening.
Mr Clarke said: “No one should ever under estimate the magnitude of this magnificent success as this team and management have written themselves into the cricketing history books. They have shown great spirit and skill to take the winning 3-0 lead in this Investec Ashes series.
“I am sure they would join me in thanking the hundreds of thousands of cricket fans, who have cheered them every step of the way in this series so far, for their outstanding support and never was that more obvious than at Durham on Monday evening when the crowd provided a wonderful backdrop to the team's fantastic winning effort against a gritty Australia side.”
Mr Clarke also thanked the venues. He said: “Trent Bridge, Lord's, Emirates Old Trafford and Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground can take great pride in delivering great stages for this Investec Ashes drama. I think everyone who attended these matches will recognise the significant improvement in spectator facilities at grounds in England and Wales in the last four years as the ECB have rolled out the strategic plan - Grounds to Play. I thank the first four venues, their boards and their staff, for their determination to put on a great show.
“We all now look forward to the grand finale of the Investec Ashes series at The Kia Oval, which again is a complete sell out. I wish England every success in their attempts to seal a fourth win and look forward witnessing another enthralling match in this series.”
