Giles impressed with Bresnan

Ashley Giles praised the England Performance Programme bowlers after the Tim Bresnan-inspired attack knocked over Queensland Second XI for just 156.

After the tourists declared overnight on 376 for nine, the EPP bowlers got straight to work with Bresnan the pick of the bunch with 4-31 from 10 overs.

Chris Jordan also shone with the new ball, taking 2-28, while Tymal Mills collected 3-17 from four overs. Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs took the other wicket to fall.

"It was a good day," said EPP coach Giles.

"A good run out for everyone. Everyone got a few overs under their belt. The spinners will probably play a bigger part in the second innings.

"We got early wickets and we know here the new ball is always important because the wickets tend to flatten out as the ball gets softer.

"Good early strikes by Bresnan and Jordan put us in a good position."

For Bresnan, who is playing his first game since August, it was another chance to prove his fitness ahead of the second Ashes Test in Adelaide next week.

Giles was certainly impressed with the Yorkshireman, who also hit an unbeaten half-century on the opening day of the match.

"It's always good to see someone like Bresnan back up and fit and firing," said Giles.

"He bowled well today. He bowled with good control and decent pace and to pick up the wickets was a bonus. I think the most important thing for us was that he came through the day strongly."

The EPP ended the day on 156 for five, with Essex starlet Ben Foakes still there on 52.

"We are about 380-ish ahead now," added Giles."We are not sure what we'll do in the morning. I believe there might be a little bit of weather around which is a surprise for Brisbane. We'll have a chat in the morning and hopefully set up a good game and be able to push for victory."
