Gloucestershire penalised by ECB Pitch Panel

An ECB Pitch Panel comprising Tony Pigott and Jack Birkenshaw (pitch liaison officers) was convened to consider the pitch used for the Friends Life t20 match at Cheltenham on Sunday, July 14 between Gloucestershire Gladiators and Warwickshire Bears.

After considering the pitch reports of the Umpires and after interviewing the Umpires, the captain and coach of both teams and both the Cheltenham and the Gloucestershire CCC head groundsmen, the Pitch Panel upheld the umpires’ decision that the pitch had demonstrated excessive turn and should therefore be rated “poor”.

There were no circumstances relating to the preparation of the pitch that negated any penalty being imposed.

As a consequence and according to ECB’s regulations, Gloucestershire are penalised 2 points, such points deduction to be applied to next year’s t20 competition.
