Hampshire on top at the Ageas Bowl

Watch highlights of day two

Hampshire were on course to establish a handsome first-innings lead at stumps on day two of their LV= County Championship Division Two match with Glamorgan at the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire are 106 runs ahead with two wickets remaining in the first innings after a rain-affected second day's play.

Michael Carberry led the scoring with 66, Liam Dawson reached 64 and James Vince 61 while Michael Bates and Kyle Abbott, with 22 and 17 not out respectively, guided the hosts to 330 for eight at the close.

Jim Allenby and Graham Wagg finished the day with three wickets apiece as Glamorgan's bowlers got on top late in the day.

After bowling Glamorgan out for 224 yesterday, Hampshire resumed 105 behind with Carberry on 62 and Dawson on 37 and the pair swiftly reached a century stand for the second wicket.

The England opener was then caught at backward point by Ruaidhri Smith off Allenby after adding just four to his overnight total.

On-loan Middlesex seamer Tom Helm took his first first-class wicket for Glamorgan when Dawson edged behind to Mark Wallace for 64.

Glamorgan enjoyed the evening session as Hampshire lost five wickets in 22 overs.

Wagg struck with the new ball, snaring Vince leg before wicket for 61 before Joe Gatting was caught behind as Wagg took a wicket in successive overs.

Will Smith was bowled by Helm for 34 after stabilising the ship following the two quick wickets.

Wallace took his third catch of the day and fourth of the innings as Sean Ervine played at an Allenby delivery.

Four balls later Allenby struck again, removing Matt Coles for a duck as Murray Goodwin took a diving catch at backward point.

Bates and Abbott stopped the rot, taking Hampshire's lead into three figures entering tomorrow's third day of play.
