Horsham Festival given go-ahead

Sussex have confirmed that the Horsham Festival will go ahead thanks to an anonymous benefactor.

The event this year will see Sussex host Warwickshire in the LV= County Championship and Notts Outlaws in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Horsham Cricket Club in the week commencing July 21.

Cricketfield Road, home of Horsham Cricket Club, will again host county action this year after Sussex confirmed that two fixtures are to be held there in July thanks to an anonymous donationThere had been a fear that a lack finances meant the games would instead have to take place at the County Ground.

But Sussex chief executive Zac Toumazi confirmed that the funds were received to ensure that the county could play at Cricketfield Road once again.

He said: “Personally I am delighted that the festival will be proceeding this year. We have had some sponsors come forward, but without the substantial donation from an anonymous benefactor it would not be going ahead.

“It is now up to all of us to make the festival the most successful ever and work hard to attract sponsorship for 2015 and beyond. We must avoid this situation reoccurring."

The four-day game against Warwickshire begins on Monday 21 July, while the 50-over clash with Notts takes place on Sunday 27 July.
