India end Asia Cup campaign with win

India cruised to a crushing victory over Afghanistan in their Asia Cup dead-rubber in Mirpur.

Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 60 as India ended their Asia Cup campaign on a winning note against minnows Afghanistan

Knowing their slim chances of making the final had been ended after Pakistan beat Bangladesh yesterday, India took their frustrations out with an eight-wicket triumph as half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane proved decisive.

India's hopes of progressing from the league stage were ultimately undone by losses to Sri Lanka and Pakistan, who will contest Saturday's final.

Afghanistan have impressed on their Asia Cup debut, having unexpectedly won their match with Bangladesh at the weekend, but they were comfortably outclassed here as Virat Kohli's team romped to victory with 106 balls to spare.

Chasing down Afghanistan's meagre total of 159 all out, India got across the line with plenty in hand as Dhawan's 60 and Rahane's 56 laid a solid foundation before Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik completed the task with respective unbeaten scores of 18 and 21.

It was India's spinner who did the majority of the damage earlier in the contest.

Slow left-armer Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the attack as he collected 4-30 from his full allocation, while Ravichandran Ashwin weighed in with 3-31.
