Richard Levi, the scorer of the fastest Twenty20 international century, has signed at short notice to play for Northants Steelbacks in this summer’s Friends Life t20.
The right-handed top-order batsman, who reached three figures in just 45 balls for South Africa versus New Zealand during February last year in his second Twenty20 international, will be Northants’ second overseas player alongside Cameron White.
Levi represented Somerset in last year’s FLt20, making 179 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of 161.26, and helped them to the last four. He will be available to the Steelbacks for the entirety of this year’s competition. His 13 international caps, the last of which was in December, have all been in the shortest form.
Head coach David Ripley said: "We are delighted to welcome Richard to the County Ground as he will add much-needed firepower to the top of our order in this format.
“His willingness to jump on a plane and get over here at very short notice is testament to his desire to play not just for us, but to try and force himself back into international contention - something we hope this stint at Northants will help him achieve.
"We are looking forward to Richard joining Cameron White here at the County Ground as we go all out for a place in the latter stages of the Friends Life t20."
Northants open thier FLt20 campaign at home to Gloucestershire Gladiators on Friday evening.
