LV= County Championship, August 3: As it happened

Yorkshire took charge against reigning champions Warwickshire while Graham Onions' eight wickets could not stop Middlesex closing on victory in a low-scoring thriller versus Durham.

6:58pm - They're done at Lord's and, with an unbeaten 36 and 24 to their names respectively, Voges and Morgan must be wondering what all the carry on was about. Middlesex are 103 for two and this one might now be beyond even Graham Onions' heroics.

You can find out how that one ends tomorrow morning; in the meantime; cast your eyes over the state of play across the country at the end of day two in this round of fixtures.

Division One

Warwickshire are 221 for eight in their first innings, 81 runs behind Yorkshire at Headingley.

Sussex are 11 for one in their second innings, a lead of 51 after dismissing Derbyshire for 274 at the County Ground this evening.

Middlesex are 103 for two in their second innings at Lord's, needing 44 more for victory over Durham.

Somerset reached 70 for one in reply to Nottinghamshire's 378 following a rain affected day at Taunton.

Division Two

Leicestershire are 127 for seven against Lancashire at Grace Road, still 104 runs shy of avoiding the follow-on.

Northamptonshire are 369 for three in their first innings at Wantage Road, establishing a lead of 11 over Gloucestershire.

Worcestershire are 213 for seven in their first innings at New Road and trail Kent by 111 runs.

Glamorgan are 226 for four at the Ageas Bowl in response to Hampshire's 349.

6:32pm - The bails are also off at Grace Road now - about five minutes or so too late for Leicestershire's liking. The games at Lord's, the County Ground and New Road should also be wrapped up shortly so we'll crack on with the close-of-play summary.

6:27pm - You know how I said Lancashire would want another wicket before the close? Well, they've only gone and got two in three balls! Leicestershire are reeling on 127 for seven - 104 from saving the follow-on - after Simon Kerrigan had Thakor caught at slip for 34 and Kyle Hogg sent back Tom Wells lbw for nine.

Stumps have been drawn at the Ageas Bowl and Wantage Road.

6:24pm - They won't want to shout it from the rooftops for fear of another clatter of wickets in a remarkable game, but Middlesex might just be closing in on victory at Lord's. They are 77 for two and past halfway in their victory chase, with not-out batsmen Adam Voges and Eoin Morgan setting themselves on 19 and 15 respectively.

Sussex are four for one, Groenewald bowling Chris Nash to bring nightwatchman Lewis Hatchett to the crease.

6:20pm - Tom Fell has a maiden championship fifty and Worcestershire are showing some resilience after Tredwell's heroics earlier this evening. The score is 193 for seven, with the hosts 131 behind.

6:16pm - They're back inside for a cup of Yorkshire Tea (other brands are available, although not necessarily encouraged around those parts!) at Headingley. Warwickshire have battled their way to 221 for eight but the hosts are in charge and remain 81 runs to the good.

There are four overs remaining at Leicestershire, where another wicket would really serve to tighten Lancashire's grip on the contest.

6:01pm - Ed Joyce throws down the stumps from point to dismiss Mark Footitt, meaning Derbyshire are all out for 274 and Sussex lead by 40. Burgoyne finished unbeaten on 62. It all leaves Sussex's openers with seven overs to negotiate this evening. I bet they're delighted with Mr Joyce, who is scheduled to come in at four.

5:57pm - Alex Wakely went for 13 to James Fuller but five overthrows have just given Northants the lead over Gloucestershire with seven wickets in hand.

Goodwin was unable to build on that half century and went lbw to Danny Briggs for 51. Glamorgan are 187 for four and trail Hampshire by 162.

5:51pm - Graham Onions, perhaps with an eye on his home Test match next week, has an eighth wicket of the match at Lord's, dismissing Joe Denly for 32 to leave Middlesex 42 for two in pursuit of 147 for the win.

Steve Magoffin bowls Mark Higginbottom and Derbyshire are 267 for nine.

5:48pm - Plunkett is eyeing a five-for. Ateeq Javid is caught behind for 17 to become the former Durham seamer's fourth scalp and Warwickshire are 196 for eight.

5:43pm - Burgoyne has raised his bat and is ploughing on. Sussex have taken the second new ball but, at 261 for eight, Derbyshire have reduced the first-innings deficit to 53.

5:38pm - Lancashire have the breakthrough at Grace Road, Glen Chapple castling Niall O'Brien for 41 to end a stand of 65 with Shiv Thakor. The latter remains on 27 and has an important role to play with his side 112 for five.

5:33pm - Middlesex have lost the first wicket of their run chase, with Sam Robson caught by Michael Richardson off Chris Rushworth. In the context of the match, an opening stand of 23 is not to be sniffed at!

5:28pm - Tredwell is threatening to run through the rest of the Worcestershire order here. Gareth Andrew is his latest victim.

Peter Burgoyne appears to have decided attack is the best response for Derbyshire. He's just launched Panesar for six and is four short of a fifty that shouldn't be too far away in his present mood.

5:23pm - That's a century for Sales as Northamptonshire relentlessly close down Gloucestershire's first-innings score. They're just 24 behind.

Tredwell has another - Ben Cox is caught by Darren Stevens and Worcestershire are 158 for six.

5:15pm - A handsome first-innings lead appears ever more likely for Yorkshire at Headingley. Liam Plunkett's third wicket is the big one for the hosts as Laurie Evans departs 12 runs shy of three figures, leaving Warwickshire 182 for seven and 120 in arrears.

Play is back under way at Grace Road.

5:12pm - The old adage of 'one brings two' proves accurate for Sussex. Following Madsen's cruel demise, Chris Jordan has Tim Groenewald pouched by Michael Yardy in the cordon without scoring.

4:57pm -  Ollie Rayner picks up his third wicket and Durham are all out for 171. Middlesex require 147 to win.

Tredwell strikes again to remove Joe Leach for a duck, while Kyle Coetzer's brilliant innings comes to an end for Northamptonshire, removed by Benny Howell for 122.

4:48pm -  Two more wickets have gone for Durham. Steven Finn has removed Callum Thorp and Graham Onions to reduce them to 168 for nine.

Moeen Ali's knock comes to an end on 59 as he falls to James Tredwell.

4:26pm -  David Sales and Moeen Ali have both completed half-centuries as play gets under way once again.

But Glamorgan have lost an early wicket as Chris Wood bowls Marcus North for 36.

4:04pm -  And the rain has ended the day's play at Taunton . Somerset will resume tomorrow on 70 for one , trailing Nottinghamshire by 308.

4pm - All our matches have reached tea. Rain at Taunton and Grace Road are disrupting play, but the other games will all resume shortly.

3:55pm -  And it gets worse Durham before the tea interval! Rayner strikes again two balls later to remove Michael Richardson for a duck. The lead is just 104 with three wickets remaining.

3:50pm -  Warwickshire lose a sixth wicket just before tea with Adil Rashid trapping Rikki Clarke lbw.

Stokes brings up his half-century for Durham at Lord's, but he will not be going on to a big score today as he is stumped by John Simpson off Rayner for 51.

3:35pm -  Rain is now hindering proceedings at Grace Road, where play has stopped with Leicestershire 95 for four. An early tea has been taken.

3:20pm - Laurie Evans sends Liam Plunkett to the third-man boundary to bring up his fifty from 101 deliveries.

At Taunton, Somerset have gone for an early tea on 70 for one following this morning's rain delay.

3:12pm -  Monty Panesar has his first wicket of the game at the County Ground, having Tom Poynton caught behind for 13. Derbyshire trail by 175 runs with six wickets down.

3:01pm -  Durham had looked to have recovered slightly against Middlesex but, two quick wickets later, are right back in trouble. First Will Smith departed for 30 - top-edging Tim Murtagh to Steven Finn at mid-on having put on 65 runs with Ben Stokes - before Paul Collingwood was sent back to the pavilion first ball by Corey Collymore. Durham's lead is 73 runs.

2:49pm -  Glamorgan are now two down, and trailing by over 300, with David Griffiths accounting for Gareth Rees. Northants, meanwhile, lose a first wicket when Tom Shrewsbury has Stephen Peters caught behind for 87.

2:32pm -  Leicestershire slip into real trouble as Matthew Boyce falls cheaply to Simon Kerrigan. Warwickshire, meanwhile, are five down following Chris Woakes' departure to Liam Plunkett. The Roses rivals are turning the screw in their respective games.

2:15pm -  Derbyshire slip further into the mire as Alex Hughes departs to Chris Jordan amid Michael Thornley falling for Leicestershire.

1:59pm -  Kyle Coetzer has wasted little time in moving to his half-century after the interval, leaving Northants in fine shape on 134 for none.

1:51pm -  Worcestershire lose a first wicket when Darren Stevens gets rid of Matt Pardoe.

1:06pm - That's lunch in all our games today. Here's how things stand:

Division One

Yorkshire have reduced Warwickshire to 55 for four , after being dismissed for 302 earlier on this morning.

Derbyshire are 81 for four in reply to Sussex`s 314 at the County Ground.

Durham are 43 for three - a lead of 18 - in their second innings at Lord`s after Graham Onions took seven wickets to help skittle Middlesex out for 168

Somerset reached 20 for one in reply to Nottinghamshire`s 378 before rain struck at Taunton.

Division Two

Leicestershire bowled out Lancashire for 380 before reaching 21 for one at Grace Road.

Northamptonshire are 112 without loss as they respond to Gloucestershire's 358 at Wantage Road.

Worcestershire are still waiting to start their innings due to heavy rain, as they look to respond to Kent`s 324.

Hampshire are all out for 349 against Glamorgan at the Ageas Bowl, who will begin their reply after lunch.

1pm -  Hampshire have been dismissed for 349 as David Griffiths falls to Dean Cosker, while Richard Johnson becomes the fourth wicket down for Derbyshire.

12:52pm -  It's been a fantastic morning session for Yorkshire. Patterson strikes again to remove Tim Ambrose for a duck. Warwickshire are now 50 for four.

12:48pm - Sussex have got rid of danger man Shivnarine Chanderpaul for nine, leaving Derbyshire 73 for three.

Lancashire make an early breakthrough at Grace Road with Greg Smith dismissed for four.

12:41pm -  Warwickshire are struggling at Headingley as Steven Patterson traps Varun Chopra lbw for 23. Yorkshire have reduced their opponents to 50 for three.

They are indeed taking an early lunch at Somerset, as they are at New Road, where there has yet to be any play between Worcestershire and Kent due to rain.

12:34pm - Division Two leaders  Lancashire have been dismissed for 380 by Leicestershire.

Stephen Peters has reached 50 for Northamptonshire, while partner Kyle Coetzer is rapidly closing on his after hitting Craig Miles for four fours in a single over!

Sohail Tanvir has been bowled by Glover for Hampshire, who are 322 for nine, while Scott Borthwick becomes the third Durham wicket to fall.

12:21pm - Somerset's response against Nottinghamshire gets off to a bad start as Marcus Trescothick is caught at third slip off Harry Gurney for two.

12:16pm -  Another wicket for Yorkshire as Liam Plunkett has Will Porterfield caught behind. Warwickshire are 36 for two.

Durham are also two down with Finn dismissing Keaton Jennings for two.

12:09pm -  Bottom-of-the-table Derbyshire lose a second wicket against Sussex as Steve Magoffin has Ben Slater caught behind for 16.

12:03pm -  Durham's second innings gets off to a terrible start. Opener Mark Stoneman falls to Murtagh in the opening over for nought.

11:59pm - Sykes removes Proctor at Grace Road to reduce Lancashire to 367 for seven. Make that 370 for eight as Gareth Cross falls to Ollie Freckingham in the following over.

Hampshire's Adam Wheater departs for 20, caught at cover off John Glover.

11:52pm -  I think Onions is enjoying bowling at Lord's. He has Tim Murtagh caught behind for his seventh wicket and Middlesex are all out for 168 - a lead of 25 runs.

11:47pm -  Yorkshire make an early breakthrough against Warwickshire. Ryan Sidebottom traps Ian Westwood lbw in the seventh over and the champions are 13 for one.

11:40pm - Nottinghamshire are all out for 378 when Fletcher's edges Jamie Overton behind for 58. Overton ends with 3-67.

Steven Finn dismissed fellow England bowler Onions yesterday and the Durham man has just got his payback. That's six wickets for Onions and Middlesex are 161 for nine.

11:30pm -  Onions strikes twice more at Lord's to compelte his five-for. Middlesex lead by six runs with two wickets left after the losses of Ollie Rayner and Gareth Berg.

It is raining again at New Road and the covers are back on. It could be a while until we have any play there.

Glamorgan have their first wicket of the day as James Vince falls for Hampshire. Nottinghamshire's Luke Fletcher hits Steve Kirby for a four and then a six to bring up his fifty.

11:17pm -  Neil Dexter falls two runs short of a fifty at Lord's as he edges Graham Onions to wicketkeeper Phil Mustard. Middlesex trail by seven with four wickets left.

There are no such issues for Lancashire's Luke Proctor, who reaches his half-century with a four off Hoggard.

11:10pm - Yorkshire claim a third batting point by passing 300 but their innings is soon over as Boyd Rankin has Jack Brooks caught behind. The Division One leaders have been bowled out for 302 .

11pm -  Games have resumed elsewhere and it is a great start for Leicestershire. Matthew Hoggard removes Tom Smith with the second ball of the day, James Sykes taking the catch at midwicket.

Peter Trego also starts in style by bowling Ajmal Shahzad for 35 at Taunton.

10:58pm - Or perhaps not...

10:50pm -  It appears the rain is holding off around the country and play is due to get under way in 10 minutes at all of the games.

10:30pm - Hello and welcome to day two of our eight LV= County Championship matches.

Here's a reminder of where we are at this morning:
