LV= County Championship, July 17: As it happened

7:23pm - Play has now ended on the south coast, so here’s the state of play in the LV= County Championship:

Division One

Middlesex are 44 without loss having dismissed Sussex for 229 on day one at the County Ground.

Nottinghamshire are 38 without loss in their second innings, chasing 427 with a day remaining against Warwickshire.

Yorkshire are 367 for two having chosen to bat against Derbyshire at Chesterfield

Division Two

Hampshire are 15 without loss in their second innings, trailing Kent by 93 heading into the final day at Canterbury.

Gloucestershire are 83 without loss after dismissing Worcestershire for 182 on day one at Cheltenham

Lancashire are 423 for five, 51 runs behind Glamorgan in their first innings after three days at Emirates Old Trafford.

Leicestershire end day one on 328 for four against Essex.

7:10pm - There are three overs left at the County Ground, where Middlesex are 34 without loss.

6:38pm - It's also stumps at Emirates Old Trafford, but there is still action at Hove - where play began an hour later - and at Edgbaston, where Nottinghamshire are 33 without loss.

6:23pm - Play is over for the day at Chesterfield, Cheltenham, Chelmsford and Canterbury.

Sussex have been dismissed for 229 in their first innings, with Berg removing James Anyon for his third wicket.

6:18pm - Joyce has been bowled by Neil Dexter and is on his way back to the pavilion after making 101.

6:13pm - Katich’s innings comes to an end as he is caught behind off Wagg for 115. The Division Two leaders are 406 for five.

6:07pm -  In today's Friends Life t20 match, Northants Steelbacks have won the toss and elected to bat against Somerset. A report of that encounter will be available on later this evening.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (367/2): Well, what a day for Yorkshire at Chesterfield. A superb stand of 311 between Alex Lees, unbeaten on 171, and Phil Jaques, who made 139, has put the visitors in command after a sweltering first day. Lees' score is his highest in first-class cricket.

5:57pm - Woakes is stumped off Samit Patel for 60 and Warwickshire soon declare on 180 for six, a lead of 426.

Chris Dent has reached his fifty, as Gloucester make a good start to their innings at Cheltenham. They are 72 without loss.

5:39pm - Chris Woakes reaches 50 with a single off Luke Fletcher, moving Warwickshire to 155 for five.

Kent have been dismissed for 513 to give them a first-innings lead of 108 while, at Emirates Old Trafford, Katich reaches his hundred with a four off Graham Wagg.

5:31pm -  Tim Murtagh takes two wickets in as many balls to reduce Sussex to 196 for eight, bowling Chris Jordan for eight and having Steve Magoffin caught behind first ball. James Anyon survived the hat-trick delivery.

5:23pm -  Ned  Eckersley brings up his hundred with a four off David Masters, moving Leicestershire to 280 for four. Eckersley and Matthew Boyce's partnership has moved to 97.

At Canterbury, Philander has been bowled by Sohail Tanvir for 23.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (334/2): Finally a wicket for Derbyshire and Jaques is the man to go for 139 as he edges Tim Groenewald to second slip. Andrew Gale is the new man as the hosts look for late inroads with the new ball.

5:04pm -  Alex Lees has reached 150 for Yorkshire at Chesterfield. His partnership with Phil Jaques is now worth 308 - a new second-wicket record for the county.

4:56pm -  James Tredwell is the latest wicket to fall at Canterbury, trapped lbw by James Tomlinson. Kent lead by 70 with two wickets remaining.

Sussex are 189 for six as tea is taken at Hove.

4:38pm -  Worcestershire have been bowled out for 182. James Fuller ends with five wickets as Alan Richardson is caught by Alex Gidman for 16.

Sussex are now six down as Ben Brown is caught off Gurjit Sandhu for seven, while Nash's innings has finally come to an end for Kent as he is caught behind for 126.

Lancashire's Andrea Agathangelou has departed while Warwickshire are 75 for five following the dismissal of Tim Ambrose.

4:28pm -  Luke Wright has been caught at midwicket off  Ollie Rayner for 22, leaving Sussex on 173 for five.

4:22pm -  Sean Ervine has trapped Geraint Jones lbw, leaving Kent 444 for six. Vernon Philander is the new man at the crease, with Nash still there on 109.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (300/1): There doesn't seem any light on the horizon for Derbyshire at Chesterfield as Yorkshire move serenely to the 300-mark. Lees has posted a career-best 127 not out and Jaques is 19 shy of 150.

4:14pm - Nash doesn't take long after tea to reach his hundred, picking up two runs off the first ball he faces in the final session.

But Graeme Cressford has been dismissed in the second over after the break at Cheltenham, leaving Worcestershire 155 for nine.

4:06pm -  Tea is also being taken at Chelmsford and Emirates Old Trafford. Leicestershire are 215 for four while Lancashire have reached 305 for three.

  4pm - Leicestershire are now four down as Shiv Thakor is caught by Owais Shah at slip off Tom Craddock for 36.

3:56pm -  Worcestershire lose an eighth wicket just before the interval, Shaaiq Choudhry falling to leave the score  154 for eight.  Meanwhile, Will Porterfield has gone for 24 to leave Warwickshire 55 for four, 301 ahead.


3:39pm -  Prince's innings comes to an end when he is caught behind off Nathan McCullum for 113. Lancashire are 280 for three.

Ed Joyce has reached 50 at Hove.

3:28pm -  Nottinghamshire claim a third early wicket at Edgbaston. Shahzad has removed Laurie Evans - who made 178 in the first innings - for just two.

Ashwell Prince has completed his hundred for Lancashire with a huge six off Dean Cosker.

3:20pm -  Middlesex grab a fourth wicket as Neil Dexter bowls Rory Hamilton-Brown for 16 while Kent's Darren Stevens is caught and bowled by James Vince. 

Meanwhile Ned Eckersley has reached 50 at Chelmsford.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (256/1): Another landmark at Chesterfield and it really is a day in the sun for Yorkshire as Jaques reaches his century with a flick off his hip for four. This partnership with Lees has been virtually chanceless and Derbyshire are toiling.

3:10pm -  Warwickshire have lost a second wicket, with Varun Chopra being trapped lbw by Luke Fletcher.

Andrew's resistance has ended at Cheltenham as he is caught off Benny Howell for 54. Worcestershire are 144 for seven.

Simon Katich has brought up his fifty at Emirates Old Trafford.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (224/1) - It's been all Yorkshire in the afternoon session as Lees and Jaques continue to put their hosts to the sword in a stand beyond 200. Lees, with shots all around the wicket, has brought up his third first-class century and Jaques is not far behind on 90 not out.

2:48pm -  Worcestershire's Joe Leach reaches a half-century and passes his previous best first-class score of 55 soon after.

2:40pm -  Warwickshire, having decided to bat again, lose Ian Westwood to Shahzad immediately.

Kent's Brendan Nash and Worcestershire's Gareth Andrew have reached respective half-centuries, while Rob Key has fallen for a mammoth 180.

2:24pm -  Notts are dismissed 246 behind Warwickshire on 217 as Patel ends with four wickets. Will the champions enforce the follow-on?

2:11pm -  David Hussey is the latest Notts batsmen to fall, Jeetan Patel grabbing a third scalp.

2:06pm -  Sussex reach the interval on  89 for three  against Middlesex, with Ed Joyce 28 not out.

2pm -  Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire have not made the kind of start they would have hoped for after lunch, the former losing Ajmal Shahzad and the latter Joe Burns.

1:38pm -  Sussex lose a third wicket as Chris Nash is caught at gully off Berg for 40. Sussex are 77 for three.

1:13pm - After making a steady start, Sussex have lost two quick wickets. Gurjit Sandhu had Luke Wells caught behind before Michael Yardy was removed in the next over by Gareth Berg.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (151/1): It will be Yorkshire who are tucking into lunch with relish at Chesterfield as an unbroken stand of 129 between Lees and Jaques has put them firmly in the ascendency. Both men have registered half-centuries and blitzed 22 off Mark Turner's last over before the break.

1:05pm -  It’s lunch in all but one of today’s games. Here’s how things stand:

Division One

Sussex have made 48 without loss in the first hour of their clash with Middlesex.

Nottinghamshire are 200 for six as they respond to Warwickshire’s 463.

Yorkshire are 151 for one on the first day of their match at Derbyshire.

Division Two

Kent have reached 302 for two with Rob Key unbeaten on 165 against Hampshire

Lancashire are 172 for two against Glamorgan.

Leicestershire are 107 for two as they bat first against Essex.

Worcestershire are on 63 for six after Gloucestershire’s James Fuller took a hat-trick in the first session of the game.

12:55pm -  Greg Smith falls four runs short of a fifty as he is caught at deep mid-on off Tom Craddock. Leicestershire are 102 for two.

Landmarks have been reached in Manchester and Chesterfield. Ashwell Prince has hit a half-century for Lancashire while Lees and Jaques have reached 50 for Yorkshire.

12:25pm -  Keith Barker has struck twice in the same over at Edgbaston. James Taylor was caught behind for 80 and Chris Read faced just three balls before returning to the pavilion. Nottinghamshire are now 182 for six.'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (78-1):  Lees and Jaques continue to lay the foundations of a big first-innings score for Yorkshire as they look in complete control. The Australian Jaques brought the 50 partnership up with an angled drive down to third man.

12:19pm -  Leicestershire's Niall O'Brien has also been removed just after bringing up his fifty. The visitors are 91 for one at Chelmsford.

12:11pm -  Warwickshire have their second wicket of the morning as Samit Patel is caught by Varun Chopra off Keith Barker. Nottinghamshire are 177 for four.

At Emirates Old Trafford, Luis Reece has been trapped lbw by Dean Cosker soon after completing his fifty.

12:04pm -  And now Craig Miles has two in two at Cheltenham, ousting Thilan Samaraweera and Ben Cox to leave Worcestershire 22 for six!'s Jonathan Veal at Derbyshire v Yorkshire (51/1):  After the early loss of Adam Lyth, who nicked a rising ball from Mark Footitt, Yorkshire look to be settling in for a long day at the crease as Alex Lees and Phil Jaques take them past 50 with an array of off-side boundaries.

11:49am -  Fuller's on fire. The ball after ousting Moeen Ali, he has Alexei Kervezee caught behind to complete a brilliant hat-trick!

11:35am -  A trio of wickets fall in Division Two as Glamorgan's Graham Wagg bowls Lancashire's Karl Brown for 48, Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond goes for 79 to James Tomlinson and Worcestershire's Daryl Mitchell falls to Will Gidman.

11:30am -  Yorkshire lose an early wicket as Adam Lyth edges Mark Footitt behind, while Gloucestershire's James Fuller has ousted Worcestershire's Matt Pardoe. In other news,  Middlesex have chosen to field versus Sussex .

11:12am -  The first wicket of the morning falls at Edgbaston, Jeetan Patel taking a return catch off Michael Lumb for 51.'s Jonathan Veal at Chesterfield:  Yorkshire resume their hunt for the LV= County Championship Division One title against Derbyshire in glorious conditions at the picturesque Queen's Park in Chesterfield this morning. Fit-again Tykes skipper Andrew Gale has won the toss and opted to bat.

10:45am -  Hello and welcome to our live coverage of today's LV= County Championship action. Three games will recommence with four others beginning, although Sussex against Middlesex will start at 12pm. Here are the scores from those encounters in day three as well as word from the tosses in the others:

Division One

Nottinghamshire  are 131 for two responding to  Warwickshire's  463 at Edgbaston.

Yorkshire  have won the toss and chosen to bat versus  Derbyshire  at Chesterfield.

Division Two

Lancashire  are 93 without loss in reply to  Glamorgan's 474  at Emirates Old Trafford.

Kent  are 200 for one in reply to  Hampshire's  405 for nine declared at Canterbury.

Leicestershire  have won the toss and chosen to bat against Essex  at Chelmsford.

Worcestershire  have won the toss and elected to bat against  Gloucestershire  at Cheltenham.
