England Women’s Academy registered one victory and one defeat from their opening two games of the 2014 summer.
They eased to a 33-run success over Wiltshire Under-15 boys last Thursday before being beaten by Whitgift School Under-16 boys on Monday.
They made light work of Wiltshire as Amara Carr struck a classy 59 and with help from skipper Jess Watson’s 34 and a late-order rally from Steph Butler, who hit 21, EWA registered 231 for nine in their 50 overs.
The women bowled well in Wiltshire’s reply with Hollie Armitage the star of the show as her leg-spin took 3-28.
Freya Davies, Cecily Scutt and Butler all chipped in with two wickets apiece as the hosts were bowled out for 198 in the final over, sealing a 33-run win.
But they could not follow that up against a strong Whitgift outfit, who recorded a five-wicket victory.
After electing to bat first EWA struggled to 156 all out, with Sophie Luff top-scoring with 31 while Butler again contributed down the order, hitting 29.
Whitgift were never in trouble in their response and they cruised to their target with 14 overs remaining.
EWA did make some inroads, though, as Butler continued her impressive form by taking 3-40, but they could not restrict their opponents.
The women are back in action on July 3 when they take on Chigwell School Under-16 boys.
