Moore released by Lancashire

Lancashire batsman Stephen Moore will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Moore scored over 1,000 runs in 2011 as the Red Rose won their first LV= County Championship title since 1934.

But the 32-year-old has made just two first-class appearances this season, as Lancashire have earned promotion back to the top tier, and has been told he is free to find a new club.

Cricket director Mike Watkinson said: "The club would like to thank Stephen for his contributions in recent seasons.

"We have not been able to create regular places for him in all competitions and hopefully he will pursue options elsewhere. He goes with our best wishes."

Head coach Peter Moores added: "Stephen has been an outstanding member of the squad over the last three years and had a major influence in the championship-winning team in 2011.

"Through a lack of opportunity in four-day cricket it has been decided to allow him to look to for opportunities elsewhere. I would like to thank him for all he has given to the team in his time with us."
