Eoin Morgan has signed to play for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League this winter, although he is likely to feature only in part of the competition due to England commitments.
The Big Bash’s round-robin phase runs from December 20 to January 27, with the semi-finals and final in the first half of February. Morgan is not part of England’s Ashes squad, but is likely to be selected for the limited-overs series that follows from January 12 to February 2.
Morgan’s stint with the Thunder will add to his extensive Twenty20 experience, having represented England, Middlesex, Bangalore Royal Challengers and Kolkata Knight Riders, his current Indian Premier League side.
The 27-year-old is set to play alongside Australia internationals David Warner and David Hussey, who have signed for the Thunder from Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers respectively. The international trio will seek to build on the Thunder’s two wins over the last two seasons.
Morgan said: “I am really excited about getting the opportunity to join the Sydney Thunder for this season’s Big Bash. I have been a big admirer of the tournament and I’m looking forward to getting a chance to play in it and represent the Thunder.
“I have been impressed with the way that the club has recruited for this season and I know that everyone is focussing on a strong campaign.”
