Essex Eagles all-rounder Graham Napier swept away the competition in this month’s Yorkshire Bank 40 Moment of the Month competition after his spectacular seven-wicket haul against Surrey at Chelmsford in June.
Napier’s stunning performance included four wickets in four balls and the prized scalp of Australia great Ricky Ponting to give him the second-best one-day figures ever for an Essex player.
He won over half the votes in the poll to decide June’s Yorkshire Bank 40 Moment of the Month, amid competition from the likes of Luke Wright and Ryan ten Doeschate.
Napier was delighted to be recognised for his standout performance and said: “It was a great feeling getting the wicket of a cricket legend like Ricky Ponting, and I was really happy that I managed to contribute so much to a great win for Essex.
“It was a special day for me and it’s really nice to be recognised for my achievements.”
Napier will take part in the Big Bike Ride from Durham CCC to Lord’s from 18th-22nd October, in aid of the PCA Benevolent Fund and the Tom Maynard Trust. As part of his prize for winning the Moment of the Month, he will donate £200 from Yorkshire Bank towards his fundraising efforts for both charities.
