Nash extends long stay at Sussex

Sussex have announced that club stalwart Chris Nash has extended his stay at the County Ground for a further three seasons.

The 32-year-old, who has developed into a crucial performer at the top of the order in all three formats for the south coast-club, has signed a contract extension to his current deal to remain at Sussex until the end of 2018.

It continues a long association with Sussex for Nash, who made his debut for the club in 2002 and has gone on to play over 150 first-class matches and 228 limited-overs games for the Sharks.

Consistent performances led to his appointment as vice-captain of the club, and a purple patch in 2011 saw him called up for England Lions before he was named in the PCA Team of the Year the following year.

He has amassed over 9,500 runs at an average of over 38 during his four-day career, marking him out as a reliable performer in the county game and he looks set to see out his career with his boyhood side.

He said: “It’s a really exciting time to commit my future to the club. It is nice to know that I’m going to be here at least until I’m 35. This is my home club, I’ve played here since the age of seven and to commit now is a great thing for me.

“It’s an exciting time with Luke Wright taking over as captain. I’m looking forward to playing under him and hopefully over the next three years I can really hit my best form.

“My aim is to score heavily in all forms and to win trophies. I still dream of playing for my country, and this, alongside winning trophies for Sussex, is what drives me to keep improving.”

Sussex head coach Mark Davis added: He is an integral part of the squad in all forms of the game and has a significant role to play in the coming years.

“Aside from his immense ability, he is a senior player at the club and his influence and leadership in the dressing room is vital to our future success.”
