Patel retakes lead in FTI MVP

Samit Patel's quick-fire 43 in the Yorkshire Bank 40 semi-final win over Somerset was enough to see him regain the lead in the race to the FTI Most Valuable Player award.

The all-rounder is now four points ahead of Worcestershire's Moeen Ali, who had topped the rankings for much of the last month.

With just three LV= County Championship matches to go and the YB40 final at Lord's, Patel has hit form at the right time, having also completed a century against Warwickshire in the championship.

In total he collected 16.38 ranking points versus Somerset and another 32.18 for his contribution against the Bears - taking his score to 551 points.

The FTI MVP, whose winner will scoop £10,000 at the end of the season, rewards players for every run scored, wicket taken and catch held.

Bowlers receive higher marks for good economy rates, bowling maidens and for dismissing the top order, while batsmen get higher marks for scoring quickly and the percentage of the team's runs they hit.
