South Africa got their Under-19s World Cup campaign off to a flying start when easing to a 94-run win over West Indies in Group C.
A late cameo of 34 not out from Justin Dill was required to get the Proteas up to a competitive 198 for nine, his effort following up Yaseen Valli’s 53.
However, that total proved more than sufficient as Kagiso Rabada’s 3-14 helped dismiss the Windies for just 104.
In Group D, Sri Lanka made a winning start as New Zealand slipped to a 49-run loss.
Kusal Mendis led the way for Sri Lanka, his fine 91 complemented by 67 from opener Sadeera Samarawickrama in a mammoth total of 275 for nine.
Plenty of Black Caps batsmen got in thereafter but none pressed on to 50 as they managed just 226 for eight.
