Sales extends Northants stay

David Sales has taken Northamptonshire up on their offer of a new one-year contract.

The 35-year-old batsman was offered fresh terms two weeks ago and he has opted to stay at Wantage Road for Northants’ return to Division One of the LV= County Championship.

One-county man Sales, whose 919 runs including three hundreds helped them come second in Division Two, said: “I'm very pleased to sign another year with Northants and looking forward to the challenges ahead in the 2014 season.”

Northants head coach David Ripley said: “I am delighted to have David with us as we look to establish ourselves in Division One. His class and experience will be vital.

“He hit the ball well all year but found ways of getting out in the first half of the season. He could easily have registered a 1,200-run season and I believe he is capable of that number in Division One next year.”

Chief executive David Smith said: “I am delighted that David Sales has signed a new one-year contract. His experience batting at number three will help the club in Division One of the County Championship next season.”
