Natasha Miles played the key innings as Sapphires beat Emeralds by five wickets with just two balls to spare to win this year’s Super 4s Twenty20 competition.
Sapphires, led by Charlotte Edwards, found themselves in trouble in their pursuit of 109 when they lost both the England skipper and her international team-mate Danielle Wyatt with just 12 runs on the board.
They then suffered a further setback when another England star, Danielle Hazell, was dismissed by Cecily Scutt.
Susie Rowe, however, held firm and with Miles put on a 56-run partnership which changed the course of the game.
When Rowe perished for 34, which included three boundaries, Miles carried her side to the brink of victory but, with just one needed in the final over, she fell for 41.
Sapphires, however, would not be denied and edged home.
