Rob Jones’ unbeaten century was not quite enough to give England Development Programme Under-17s victory over their Sri Lanka counterparts in Saturday’s deciding one-day international.
Number six Jones hit 100 not out from 110 balls as the hosts chased 249 to win, but they came up just short on 241 for seven from 50 overs.
England’s other significant batting contribution was 55 from captain Ed Barnard.
Sri Lanka’s 248 for eight was underpinned by 58 from Avishka Fernando and Sahan Arachchige’s 51.
The tourists won the first of three ODIs by five wickets but lost the next by 73 runs.
