Sussex in charge at Old Trafford

Watch the highlights from day three

Sussex will look to press home their significant advantage on the final day of the LV= County Championship Division One match against Lancashire after dominating again at Emirates Old Trafford.

The visitors hold a 323-run lead after dismissing their hosts for 191 thanks to four wickets from Steve Magoffin.

That left Lancashire 107 behind on first innings and by stumps they found themselves facing the prospect of trying to save the game, although the Manchester weather may yet lend a helping hand.

The Red Rose resumed on 157 for six with Tom Smith and Alex Davies having already shared a stand of 77.

However, they advanced that by only five runs before Smith edged Jon Lewis behind one short of a half-century.

Davies lofted Ashar Zaidi over mid-off for his ninth boundary of the innings and his maiden first-class half century, coming off 101 balls.

However, he mistimed a drive off Luke Wright into a similar area and departed for 59.

Simon Kerrigan's over-ambition against Zaidi saw him stumped and Kyle Jarvis followed soon after leg before to leave captain Glen Chapple 10 not out.

Lancashire needed early wickets to prevent the game getting away from them and Chris Nash duly obliged just after lunch when he pulled Chapple to Smith at midwicket.

When Luke Wells edged to slip the lead was 163 but first-innings century-maker Michael Yardy and Rory Hamilton-Brown extended that advantage to 205 with Sussex 98 for two at tea.

Paul Horton's second catch at slip, more spectacular than the first, ended the threat from Yardy on 45 and, after a brief interlude because of bad light, Kerrigan bowled Hamilton-Brown for 44 after he had put on 49 with Matt Machan.

Even the departure of Wright, leaving Sussex 216 for five at the close, was little consolation for the hosts who face a difficult day on Wednesday, when Machan will begin with 44 to his name.
