Title tussle hots up after Cuckney win

Cuckney and Rolls Royce are slugging it out for the title but Cuckney cranked up the pressure with a comprehensive 7 wicket win away at Kimberley which put them back on top.

The home side batted first and closed on 206 for eight with Bharat Popli continuing his recent good form with 58 with Jon Mann contributing an unbeaten 40.

Ian Parkin (3-29) and Richard Stroh (3-41) did most of the damage with the ball for the 2012 champions.

Cuckney’s powerful batting line-up made light work of their target, reaching it with more than 10 overs to spare for the loss of just three wickets. Nick Langford starred with 77 with support from Billy Root (48) and Stroh (41).

The 20 points that Cuckney gained from that win pushed them back to the top of the table after Rolls Royce could bag only 17 in securing a winning draw away at Clifton.

The visitors batted first and got off to a flier with Dan Birch and Adeel Shafique putting on 121 for the first wicket.

Shafique fell for 38 but Birch powered on to 112 from 91 balls as Rolls closed on 245 for eight with Martin Weightman and Alex Turner both grabbing three wickets. Clifton were not bowed by their target and got within 18 runs when they finished on 227 for eight.

Weightman rounded off a fine day with 53, Scott McNeill returned with 57 and Dominic Harvey hit 49. Liam Andrews secured the best bowling return of the match with figures of 4-64 with Adam Shepherd chipping in with 3-35.

The Nottinghamshire Academy opened up the gap between themselves and Mansfield Hosiery Mills when they travelled to the Fieldings and secured a strong eight wicket win.

The home side posted 196 for eight in the first innings with Gareth Curtis leading with 53 supported by the New brothers, Matt scoring 32 and Tom 30 with George Bacon, Ben Kitt and Adam Tillcock each claiming two wickets.

The County side lost only two wickets in their chase, which only lasted 43 overs with Sam Kelsall (72 not out) and Tom Rowe (64 not out) seeing them home.

Farnsfield are fighting hard to get out of the relegation zone and did their hopes of survival a power of good when recording their third win of the campaign as they overcame Caythorpe at home by four wickets.

The visitors were bowled out for just 176 with only James Oldham showing any stickability with an innings of 49. Jamie Wagstaff took 5-46 and Dave Loveridge 3-39. In another quick finish, Farnsfield rushed to their target in 39 overs with Osama Alam hitting 63 and skipper Paul Franks 55.

Papplewick’s poor season continued as they slipped to their ninth defeat in 13 games as they went down by seven wickets at home to the West Indian Cavaliers.

The home side were dismissed in exactly 50 overs for 184 with Jack McIver top-scoring with 55 and Akhil Patel (3-27) and Usman Afzaal (3-29) leading the Cavaliers attack.

In another quick run chase, the visitors smashed their way to 185 for three in just 29.1 overs with Afzaal (75 not out ) and Bilal Shafayat (41 not out) seeing them home.

The final game of the day took place at Sookholme where visitors Plumtree secured a season double over Welbeck.

The home side went to tea on 198 for eight after Matt Higgins hit 55 supported by Jonny Loates (47 not out) and Adam Burgess (34) and Mohsin Qayyum continued his fine form with figures of 4-75.

Ash Willis (3-46) reduced Plumtree to 22 for three in their response but an excellent stand of 82 between David Bedingham (47) and skipper Ben Thompson (65) got them back on track before Ben Storey saw them home with an unbeaten innings of 34.
