Weather thwarts Australia and India once more

Heavy downpours had the decisive say again in India and Australia's seven-match one-day international series as a water-damaged outfield prevented a ball being bowled in Cuttack.

Rain also forced the fourth rubber in Ranchi to be called off when intriguingly poised and, although conditions were clear this morning, a week of inclement weather in Cuttack meant play was already deemed highly unlikely for the fifth encounter.

The Odisha Cricket Association took the unusual step of calling in helicopters to dry the playing area but it was deemed unfit for play following an 11am inspection by match referee Roshan Mahanama.

Australia lead the series 2-1 and the sides are due to meet against in Nagpur on Wednesday.
