Worcestershire duo sign new deals

Worcestershire have tied down promising duo Joe Leach and Charlie Morris to new deals.

Joe Leach will be looking for more chances to shine next season after signing a new one-year deal at New RoadLeach, 23, has signed a one-year extension until the end of 2014 while 21-year-old Charlie Morris has put pen-to-paper on a summer scholarship for next season that will turn into a full-time contract in 2015.

Director of cricket at New Road Steve Rhodes told the club’s website: “Both Joe and Charlie have shown great promise in the early stages of their cricketing careers. We look forward to seeing the duo reach their full potential."

Batsman Leach scored 260 runs at 37.14 during his six LV= County Championship appearances this season and hit his maiden first-class ton against Gloucestershire in July.

He said: "I am delighted to have signed a new contract for the 2014 season and hope that it will be a successful campaign both personally and for the team.”

Morris made his Worcestershire debut in a tour match against Australia and featured in five List A matches, taking six wickets.

"I am delighted that the club has offered me a full contract for after I finish my studies at University,” he said. “It's an honour to be a part of the club and has been a dream to play professional cricket.

“However, I am aware that the hard work begins now and I'm excited for the opportunities ahead and hopefully contributing to the future success of the club."
