Yuvraj Singh’s 35-ball 77 not out saw India overhaul Australia’s 201 for seven with two balls and six wickets to spare at Rajkot in the one-off Twenty20 international that precedes seven one-day internationals between the sides.
Yuvraj struck five sixes and eight fours as he rescued the hosts from 100 for four, dominating an unbroken 102 in 8.3 overs with Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Aaron Finch, who in August hit a T20I record 156 versus England, set up Australia’s total with 89 from 54 deliveries, including 14 fours and a maximum after Dhoni won the toss.
However, Finch’s fellow opener Nic Maddinson’s 34 was the next-best contribution as three wickets apiece for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Vinay Kumar pegged the tourists back.
Likewise, besides Yuvraj’s innings, 34 from Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli’s 29 were India’s highest scores. But the experienced fifth-wicket duo did enough for victory.
