Brearley named president

Former England captain Mike Brearley has been announced as the next president of MCC.

Brearley will succeed Essex stalwart and former England player Doug Insole when he begins his one-year term in October.

Brearley, 65, is regarded as one of England’s greatest captains, having led the team in 31 Tests. He is best remembered for overseeing the 1981 Ashes triumph.

MCC are responsible for administering the laws of the game and the president’s role in an honorary position which is changed annually.
