David Brown has signed a professional contract with Gloucestershire which will keep him at the County Ground until the end of the 2008 season.

The 24-year-old made his first team debut in 2006 after emerging from Gloucestershire's second XI where he had been playing under an emerging player contract.

He burst onto the county scene last season, winning Gloucestershire's champagne moment for his first-team debut, when he came in at number nine against Surrey in the C&G Trophy and hit 63 off 22 balls.

Brown said: “I am delighted to have extended my contract. I hope to build on the progress made last year and make a significant contribution to a successful 2007 season for the club.”

Brown played club cricket at Burnley until the age of 19 and represented Lancashire at all junior levels before appearing for their second XI.

He went to Durham University and gained a degree in Sport in the Community while playing for the university team under the coaching of ex-England batsman Graham Fowler.

Last season he also played club cricket for Wimbledon in the Surrey Premier League.
