Derbyshire plan to reduce traffic

Derbyshire

Derbyshire County Cricket Club are unveiling new measures to keep congestion around the County Ground to a minimum during the forthcoming Twenty20 Cup.

An extra car park facility will be available, only a short walk from the ground, which will allow vehicles to completely cut out Pentagon Roundabout, while other measures are being put in place in conjunction with the City Council to help the flow of traffic in the area.

The Shaw Group UK Ltd car park, situated on Stores Road, has a capacity of 200 vehicles and will be available at all four floodlit matches during the Phantoms’ Twenty20 Cup campaign.

Places in the car park can be booked in advance for £4 or are priced at £5 on the day of the game. All those who book will be supplied with information regarding its exact location and instructions on how to get to the ground.

Advanced purchases can be made either at the time of purchasing tickets - online, over the phone or in person - or afterwards as a separate transaction.

The club are also recommending the pay and display Cattle Market Car Park off the A38 as an alternative.

“Twenty20 Cricket at the County Ground is an excellent product which has become extremely popular and we are determined not to become victims of our own success," said Derbyshire Chief Executive Keith Loring.

“With so much traffic hitting the area within a short space of time, we are fully aware that supporters were, at times, experiencing long waits to get into the ground for our busy floodlit matches last season.

“Keeping a proportion of the crowd away from Pentagon Roundabout will help ease the congestion, however, we would also urge supporters to leave their cars at home where possible and try to arrive at the ground early to ensure a smooth run into the ground.”

The phone number for the ticket office is 01332 388 101 and both tickets and car park passes can also be purchased online at derbyshireccc.com.
