Durston follows Derbyshire trend

Wes Durston has become Derbyshire’s fourth player in a week to sign a three-year contract as the LV= County Championship Division Two winners prepare for the top flight.

Batting all-rounder Durston follows Jonathan Clare, Tony Palladino and Ross Whiteley in committing to the club. A week ago Richard Johnson moved from Warwickshire on a permanent deal and in August David Wainwright signed for four more years and Mark Turner two.

Durston, 31, who blogs exclusively for ecb.co.uk, signed for Derbyshire in June 2010 after the former Somerset man impressed for the Unicorns in the Clydesdale Bank 40.

He has since established himself in all forms of the game. This season he hit 1,367 runs in all senior cricket and took 33 wickets with his off-spin.

Durston, the most experienced member of Derbyshire’s squad, said: "I am over the moon to be committing the next three years of my career to Derbyshire. This is as tight-knit a squad as I've known throughout my career and I'm delighted to be remaining a part of it for the foreseeable future.

Head coach Karl Krikken said: "Wes has been one of our most consistent performers across the different formats since he came to the club and securing his services for the next three years is a huge boost moving forward.

"He has the right level of experience to be able to perform in Division One next year, as well as passing on his knowledge to the younger players within the squad."
