Wavell Hinds has been awarded his county cap by Derbyshire during the LV= County Championship match against Middlesex.
The 32-year-old former West Indies batsman was presented with his cap by Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris during the lunch interval on day three at Derby.
Since belatedly joining as a Kolpak player midway through last season, the left-hander has made 407 first-class runs in nine matches.
Hinds, who won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy with the Windies, has also topped the run charts in limited-overs cricket this season, and made a huge hundred in the championship match with Northamptonshire.
Morris said: “The reason Wavell has been capped is because he has been a top international player and now he has come into this club, scored a couple of hundreds already this season and has been brilliant around the place.
“As an experienced cricketer, not just on the field, but off the field with the rest of the lads, he is second to none.
“As far as I am concerned a capping system is about rewarding players who are contributing both on and off the field in a senior manner. Wavell fits that role and that is why he has been capped.”
