Durham head coach Geoff Cook is hopeful England paceman Steve Harmison will be able to spearhead the county's quest to win a maiden County Championship title this morning despite cracking a bone in his wrist.

The fast bowler injured his left wrist trying to take a catch against Kent yesterday and left the field to have his forearm strapped, briefly returning to the action before leaving the field for the last 30 minutes of play.

Harmison has since been to hospital for an x-ray which revealed he cracked a bone but it is hoped it will not affect him bowling as Kent resume on 159 for five in their second innings, still 253 runs adrift of an innings defeat.

The England international was present at Canterbury this morning with a lightweight cast on his non-bowling arm as the team prepared for the final day of the LV County Championship season.

"He has popped off to hospital for an x-ray to see if there is any lasting damage," Cook said.

"I'm sure he will be desperate to get on to the field and play his part in what hopefully will be a fantastic day."
