Hampshire beat Essex by seven wickets in a Twenty20 challenge match that saw two first-class counties using a pink ball for the first time.
The Rose Bowl clash was the latest in a series of experiments with the new ball and saw Essex post 130 for six batting first, with Ryan ten Doeschate clubbing an unbeaten 70.
Hampshire reached their target with nine balls to spare thanks to 58 not out from Michael Carberry.
