Masters extends Essex stay

Essex CCC

David Masters

Seamer David Masters will remain at Chelmsford until 2012 at the earliest after signing a contract extension

David Masters has pledged his future to Essex by signing a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2012.

The seamer’s original three-year deal was due to expire at the end of next season, but he has agreed an extension to ensure he remains at Chelmsford for a further 12 months.

Masters began his first-class career in 2000 with Kent before joining Leicestershire in 2003. He moved to Essex in 2008 for family reasons, and has impressed sufficiently to earn a longer contract.

“I am now 31 and will be very happy to finish my career here at Essex, when this new contract ends I will be 34,” said Masters, who has taken 36 wickets in the LV= County Championship at 26 apiece this season.

“I want to carry on playing cricket beyond that point and this is certainly a step in the right direction.

“I am enjoying my time with Essex and want to have more success and win more trophies. Another key part of my role is bringing on the next generation of bowlers here.”

First team coach Paul Grayson added: “We are all delighted that David has signed a contract extension.

“He is a role model for all of the bowlers at the club. He is very happy at this club, a real pleasure to work with.

“He has been a terrific performer for the past few years. If he can stay fit that will continue for years to come.”
