Maunders extends Essex stay

John Maunders, who played 10 LV= County Championship games this year, will remain at Essex for the 2010 campaign

John Maunders has signed a new one-year contract at Essex.

The left-handed opener has agreed an extension to his initial one-year deal, which ran out at the end of this season.

He averaged 32.94 in 10 LV= County Championship matches this summer, having spent the second half of the 2008 campaign on trial at Chelmsford following his release by Leicestershire.

“We are delighted John has decided to extend his stay with Essex,” said coach Paul Grayson.

“He is a popular member of the team and he put strong performances in this season and gave some very good contributions in the Pro40 and the County Championship. We hope he has a good winter and comes back next year ready for the challenge ahead.”
