Phillips remains with Essex

Essex have handed a new one-year contract to left-arm spinner Tim Phillips, taking him through to the end of the 2010 season.
Phillips, 28, a former Durham University student, has spent a decade on Essex’s books since making his first-class debut in 1999.
Phillips could take on a more prominent role on Essex's return to LV= County Championship Division One, given the departure of off-spinner James Middlebrook and unconfirmed status of last year’s overseas player, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria.
Paul Grayson, Essex first team coach, added: "This is obviously good news. Tim is a valuable member of our playing squad, he enjoyed a full season in 2009.
“When he is fit he gives good contributions throughout a campaign. I know Tim is looking for a big season in 2010.
“He will be spending this winter in Cape Town and we are confident he will come back fit and strong and make a big impact on our Division One campaign.”
