Glamorgan’s Jim Allenby has won the prestigious Wetherell Award from The Cricket Society for being the leading all-rounder in English first-class cricket during 2012.

Last summer Allenby scored 733 first-class runs at an average of 40.72 and took 42 format wickets at 23 apiece. Besides being Glamorgan’s leading wicket-taker, he also hit two LV=County Championship hundreds - against Essex at Colchester and Kent at the SWALEC Stadium.

He will receive the award from Sir Tim Rice at the society’s spring dinner in London on March 22.

Allenby, who is spending the winter in his native Western Australia, said: “I am extremely delighted that my efforts with both bat and ball for Glamorgan last summer have been recognised in this way, and I’m very honoured to receive this award from The Cricket Society.”
