Gibbs returns to Glamorgan
Explosive South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs has agreed to rejoin Glamorgan as overseas player for the second half of next season, following a successful stint during this year's Twenty20 Cup.
Gibbs starred in the competition when the Welsh county reached the quarter-finals but may miss out in 2009 as he is set to return from July to September.
The 34-year-old averaged 56 in six Twenty20 innings last season, including a superb 98 against Northants Steelbacks.
Gibbs, who has played 90 Tests and 227 one-day internationals for the Proteas, said: "I'm really excited about returning to Glamorgan. Joining the team for the Twenty20 Cup last season was a great experience.
“I am looking forward to having more time over the summer to play with Glamorgan and hopefully helping the team progress in their 2009 campaign."
Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard added: "I am absolutely delighted about Herschelle returning to the club. He made a great impression on the team in 2008 and he is an inspirational player to add to the squad.
“Herschelle is a typical example of the cricketing experience that we are looking to sign to the club and I'm thrilled that he is joining us next season."
Glamorgan chairman Paul Russell said: "Here at the SWALEC Stadium, we are making major progress both on and off the field as we draw towards the 2009 season.
“The addition of Herschelle to the squad is a fine example of another great achievement for the club. I am sure that Herschelle will be a superb asset to the team and I am thrilled with his appointment."
