Seamer Michael Reed has been handed a contract extension at Glamorgan and skipper Mark Wallace awarded a benefit year in 2013.

Reed has played just four first-class matches for the county, but will be aiming to kick on after being given an extra two years.

He said: “I am delighted to have signed a contract extension with Glamorgan. It's been great to have had an opportunity to play first-team cricket this season and this announcement along with an enjoyable home victory against Kent is a great way to sign off the season."

Head of elite performance Matthew Mott added: “Mike has made a dramatic rise this season. He started the year as a raw, unproven product and you can see in the win against Kent our last match out how he has developed as a player.”

Wallace, meanwhile, is a significantly more experienced campaigner having made his debut for Glamorgan in 1999.

He said: “It is a huge privilege to be granted a benefit year by the club’s committee and I would like to express my gratitude to them.”

Chairman Barry O’Brien commented: “Mark is an outstanding player for the club and we are delighted to be able to award Mark Wallace a benefit next year. Mark has been a superb servant to Glamorgan throughout his career and thoroughly deserves a benefit given his commitment to the team's cause.”
